How to Get a Live Scan

State-by-state guide

  • If you are in California, you will need a Request for Live Scan Form. Live Scan service providers in California cannot submit your Live Scan transaction without this form; we would highly recommend that you contact your employer or requesting agency to get a copy of this form. We have provided a list of these forms here. However, we would highly recommend that you contact your requesting agency or employer for the correct form.
  • If you are in Florida, you will need to get an ORI number from your employer or requesting agency. Once you have an ORI number, you can either enroll online or walk into your selected location. All Live Scan submissions are transmitted to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) or ACHA based on the ORI number that you provide us.
  • If you are in any other state, you will still have the option for Live Scan but the fingerprints will be printed onto an FD-258 card. This is offered as part of our Fingerprint Card service and will be sent to you via USPS. This service can be used for a variety of application types, however, we would recommend that you confirm that a printed card is acceptable.

Finding a location

Our Live Scan submission service is only available in California and Florida, however, we do offer a nationwide fingerprint card service.

  • In California, you can walk into any of our locations with a Request for Live Scan form or enroll online. The online enrollment speeds up the Live Scan process and allows you to input all of your information and pay for the service online. After you’ve paid, you are given a Token that can present to any of our locations in California for the Live Scan fingerprint submission.
  • In Florida, you can walk into select locations with your ORI number, or enroll online. The online enrollment process allows you to input all of your information and to pay for the Live Scan service online; you will be emailed a QR code that you can take to your selected location for the Live Scan fingerprint submission.
  • For the Fingerprint Card service, you are required to enroll online. You will need to provide your personal information and make a payment. Once paid, you will be given a QR code that you can take to your selected location for the fingerprint card service. The printed card will then be sent to you within 3 to 7 business days by USPS First Class Mail.

Getting fingerprinted

We will scan your fingerprints using an FBI-certified fingerprint scanner.

  • You will need to present a copy of your Request for Live Scan form. If you have enrolled online, you will also need to provide the operator with your Token. The operator will verify your identity and will then scan your fingerprints and submit them to the California DOJ and/or FBI for the fingerprint-based background check.
  • You will need to present either your ORI number or your online enrollment QR code to the operator, they will then verify your identity and capture your fingerprints.  Once your fingerprints are captured, they will submit them to the FDLE or AHCA for the fingerprint-based background check.
  • You will need to present your QR code to the operator, once they have verified your identity, they will scan your fingerprints and transmit them to us. Once we have received your fingerprints, we will print them onto an FD-258 card and mail them to you via USPS First Class Mail. Note: This service is available at nationwide locations, however, you are required to enroll online.
