Certifix, Inc. (“Certifix,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) values your privacy and is committed to protecting your biometric information.
This policy explains how Certifix collects, uses, stores, and destroys biometric data, including fingerprints, in accordance with applicable federal and state privacy laws across the United States — including but not limited to the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (740 ILCS 14/1 et seq.) (“BIPA”), which serves as a model for biometric data protection standards.
1. Purpose of Collection
Certifix collects and processes biometric information, including fingerprints, solely for the purpose of performing fingerprint-based background checks, identity verification, and related services as requested by our customers, applicants, or partner agencies.
2. Definition of Biometric Information
Biometric identifiers include fingerprints and other unique biological characteristics used to identify an individual.
Biometric information means any data derived from a biometric identifier.
3. Collection and Use
Certifix uses this information only to fulfill the requested service and transmit fingerprint data to the appropriate government agency (e.g., FBI, state DOJ, FDLE, or other authorized entities).
4. Disclosure and Sharing
Certifix does not sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from any biometric information.
Biometric data is only disclosed to authorized government or regulatory agencies as required to complete the requested service or as required by law.
5. Retention Schedule
Certifix retains biometric information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose of collection or as required by applicable law.
For Illinois residents, biometric information will be retained for no longer than three (3) years after the individual’s last interaction with Certifix, unless a shorter retention period is required by law or the purpose for collection has been satisfied sooner.
6. Data Destruction
When the purpose for collecting biometric information has been fulfilled or the retention period has expired, Certifix will permanently destroy biometric data in a secure manner consistent with industry standards and applicable laws.
7. Security Measures
Certifix implements industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect biometric information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
Security measures include, but are not limited to:
Data encryption,
Restricted access controls, and Secure data transmission protocols.
8. Consent
Before collecting biometric information, Certifix provides individuals with a written notice and consent form describing the purpose and duration of collection, storage, and use of biometric data.
By providing fingerprints or proceeding with a fingerprint-based service, individuals acknowledge and consent to the collection, storage, and transmission of their biometric information as described in this policy.
9. Policy Updates
Certifix may update this Biometric Information Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in technology, legal requirements, or operational practices. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
